And just like that the world stopped for my trip to the city.I was on the go for the sole purpose of Actorfest.....And it was crowded..... long lines on both sides of Manhattan Studios and all I had was a hall pass. While waiting I meet and networked with a man from Seattle and a girl from Virginia young actors which I learned their views of the ins and outs of this lifestyle.I couldn't help but ponder of the older gentleman with a folder in his hand who slipped next to us in the midst of our conversations. He was in a business suit, dark shades, and cell phone in hand.He came about asking us about this Actorfest. But then he stuck around to cut the line and see how far he would have to wait before they start to let us in.He too had a hall pass. Then the cell phone talk began.
Him-"Yeah I got business to handle here."
then another call...
Him-"Oh I miss you,but I'm struggling here."
The girl I was with laughed at him like who is this has been loser and why is he talking to us.But all I could do is wonder damn I can tell he is going through a lot hope he gets a gig.He obviously is still trying and putting himself out there hes no has been but a starving artist. Then the older gentleman and I were called to come in.Guess having the hall pass wasn't so bad after all.
While inside the networking really began.Head shots and resumes were dropped off, registrations, jokes, information exchanges, countless raffles and commitments all went down in that small space.A space that was circled by lines of people waiting to be auditioned for Telemundo, Nickelodeon, and the works. It felt nice. Then there was this spin the wheel type of game where I won Acefest, giving me access to the Actorfest Afterparty at Slate free of charge! It was a good night and Slate was my very first industry party.Stay positive and who'd be surprised where you will end up at the end of the day,in my case at the end of the night.
Peace
